Juan Jesús Menéndez Álvarez
Bachelor of Law with the University of Oviedo in 1984. Practicing lawyer (continuous), member of the Bar Association of Oviedo, since 1986. Founding partner of CyM Abogados (law firm) in 1986. Founding partner of GdP Legal in 2015 where he is also the General Manager and Head of the Department in charge of bankruptcy laws.
Since his early career years, his work stood up in private law, especially in the fields of property, obligations and contracts, public liability (medical, construction, traffic...).
Starting with 2000, he focused mainly on the business field, specifically on entrepreneurial crises and the legal mechanisms to face those, always with the triple objective in mind: maintain the business activity and the employment, avoid or minimize the partners and administrators' liability and try to accomplish the obligations and commitments towards the third parties.
He was acting and he still does as insolvency administrator appointed by various judicial institutions, as an individual lawyer or through GdP Legal, in dozens of insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings in Asturias, Madrid and other cities in Spain.
He was responsible for the specialized training in bankruptcy law within the Bar Association in Oviedo. In this capacity, he coordinated and led multiple courses and seminars from 2010 until today, enjoying the presence of the most relevant personalities from the commercial jurisdiction.
He was also leading the workshops on insolvency organized by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Spain.
As well as the other members of the GdP Legal Team, he places great emphasis on the continuous training and thus attending systematically at various courses and congresses throughout the year.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of Oviedo and president of its Legal Fees Committee between 2007 and 2015, when he decided not to take part in more elections.
He was also a professor at the School of Legal Practice in Asturias for various years.
He worked as a coordinator of the tutors-professors within the Master's Program for Lawyers and Prosecutors, organized by the University of Oviedo and the professional associations until he voluntarily retired in 2014.
He is a partner at the College of Magistrates in the program of initial training for practicing judges.
Since 2021 he is part of the editorial board of the magazine LA LEY Insolvencia, Revista profesional de derecho concursal y paraconcursal.
